Urban trekking itinerary of the coast of Favignana

Discover Favignana, history, the monuments, the nature, with an urban trekking route.

Here is a summary of what we will encounter if we manage to make the whole circumnavigation of the island. But if you consult this site you will find many details by following the main menu.

Starting from the port we go towards the town on the marina side and then towards the Playa beach , then after visiting the Gothic-Renaissance establishment of the tonnara, today gorgeous Museum of the Egadi, we go back to the town passing through the town hall square so we pass and stop to visit the Liberty of Palazzo Florio.

We can therefore take a short trip to Badia district to enjoy the flavor of the time of Antonino Campo's tuff sculptures.

East, along the coast road that gives a view of Levanzo, after about 2 Km., you get to the archaeological zone of San Nicola that, inhabited since prehistoric times, It shows signs of a late Hellenistic necropolis.

If we do the route all along the coast we meet the suggestive Scali of St. Joseph and Madonna and Cale Nice and St. Nicholas. Arrived here continuing towards Cala Rossa you cross the area of Scalo Cavallo.

Continuing in the same direction Cala Thunder, Grotta Perciata, Lido Burrone a beautiful tongue of sand, then Calamoni, calamonaci, Punta Longa home to a small fishing village and a small port. Here we are at approx 2 Km. on the opposite side of the port area.

The route from Punta Longa to Punta Sottile, where the headquarters of the lighthouse, It is a succession of way: S. Antonio, round, Big, of small islands, Preveto, Jailbird, Guys, Rocks from the currents and unpolluted sea. Gives Punta Sottile northbound, until Punta Ferro, the coast becomes more arid and rocky. To Punta Faraglione, Bella Cala del Pozzo, Fish rich and curly.

We are near the area “B” the marine reserve with waters rich in flora and fauna. Area “B”, overcoming Punta Faraglione, It extends up to Grottarola. In the tract is located: Cala Trapanisa, Cala Funeri, Cave Rimbs, Punta Vallirara, La Beach, Punta Canal and then the Port of Cala Main.

All the way, circa 25 Km., it can be done in various ways and at different times: on foot, by bike, by moped, mounted, Also by car or boat with a few exceptions. Necessarily walk or boat, from Punta Stack to Grottarola.

Two routes that go to the island's interior are St. Catherine's Castle (312 slm) the A Cross on top of Punta Grosso (250 slm).
