In addition to being one of the most beautiful beaches of the island and the entire Mediterranean (and do not overdo it), Cala Rotonda is a beautiful natural harbor created by Mother Nature, that leads only to the west and southwesterly.
The natural arch that divides it into two almost equal parts as it is called Ulysses Arco: on the right there are small beaches are not reachable from, while on the left there are the largest and easily accessible beaches.
Cala Rotonda Gallery Favignana
The entire bay is formed by a rock wall that protects it from the winds. Not far from the shore there is a small easily accessible by sea grotto while it is not rough.
The arrival from the sea is spectacular, we invite you to do so with one of the many nautical services which exist in Favignana, we have chosen the Rental Grimaldi performing with the boat ARA Royal trips with lunch around the perimeter of the island to discover the most beautiful coves to snorkel among the glances and Posidonia.
Look at this spectacular video made in the middle of the bay…basta un po’ of bread and…
How to get there by land
From Favignana:
- Bus No.. 2. Stop “Cala Rotonda”
- In Bike / Moto: take the road to Calamone Sea Taxi then right up to the gallery, after the tunnel and a section of curves and straights turn left for the Landing of Ulysses. Follow the paved road to the village (recognizable by its white color white) e, at the junction characterized by a Bevaio, take the dirt road to the left and, next, the first right. This small street leads to the wide glade overlooking the cove. See the itinerary Egadi Maps
The shallow waters are home to vast prairies Posidonia among which you can see endless variety of resident fish and passes like the looks and several sea urchins.
It should if not practical wear reef shoes for rocks, mask and snorkel for an unforgettable experience. Beware Jellyfish ! Always bring along a supply of an astringent gel aluminum chloride. Stinging are also attinie O “oil at sea” as they say the Sicilians !

The Attinia occurs in low even seabed surface of the water attached to the rocks. Visible soft brownish-colored tentacles. (pictured duplicate one in the center and the left under the rock)
They're not as stinging jellyfish but cause heartburn because the tentacles remain attached to the skin. You have to in this dear clean the case and wait for the calm burning.
Also we remember that we are in Protected sea area and it can not be removed by anything either from the bottom or from the beaches.
