Favignana: Museo Malacologico “Matteo Sercia”

Reopens in Favignana, in collaboration with the AMP, The Malacological Museum "Matteo Sercia" which also received the Certificate of Excellence from Tripadvisor.

Since a few weeks, thanks to an agreement with the Marine Protected Area “Egadi Islands”, it is again possible to visit, Favignana, the "Casa Museo Matteo Sercia”, founded by Gabriele in September Sercia 2010: a wonderful underwater world, born from the passion for the sea and malacologia, full of beauty unknown to many, that is accumulated in the drawers. The Malacological Museum, indeed, It contains a wealth, partly still unknown, of organisms of great beauty and ecological and biological importance, which exhibits in three halls, where you can get an overview on the marine world.

Inside there are specimens of echinoderms as Arbacia lixula, Paracentrotus lividus, Spaerechinus granularis, Acanthaster planci, crustaceans and fish, including Rhinobatos rhinobatos, then shells belonging to Mediterranean and exotic molluscs, including venous Rapana, Xenophora crispa, Chlamys proteus.

The visit to the museum ends with a showcase where shellfish are allocated different endemic of Sicily and specimens of gastropods and bivalves dulciacquicoli.

The visit is free, and to lead once there are the holder of the House Museum, Gabriele Sercia, which continues the tradition with passion, or marine biologist Paolo Balistreri, the AMP staff.

Museo Malacologico Conchiglie FavignanaIn past seasons the "House Museum" received numerous visits by British tourists, Spanish, French, Germans and a programmed group Esperanto. Structure, in the years, It availed itself of the collaboration with the AMP, guaranteed by the presence of a collaborator.

The museum was attended and praised, as a private facility open to the public with free admission and received, lately, the certificate of excellence from Tripadvisor.
